2005 The First Ever Ben Kruse 18 FORE Life Charity Golf Event

2005 marked a great time for the charity and was the inaugural year in which 18 FORE Life literally became more than a golf tournament. The Elk’s Lodge was the host for our dinner/banquet and celebration in memory and honor of the people who we have helped over the past five years. Norm Stewart blessed us with a wonderful speech that touched, motivated, and entertained. He then went the extra mile, staying and playing in the morning flight (very well I might add). Tickets were sold for the event and over 400 people enjoyed an unbelievable meal and great service from the crew at the Elk’s, as well as a wonderful talk from Chris Mofield, a video tribute to Ben Kruse, a powerful performance from Candy Coburn, and an 80’s tribute from a band called Sittin’ Pretty. Chris Mofield is a courageous man battling cancer and a great friend of 18 FORE Life. Chris left everyone moved and inspired. He is a hero to everyone who knows him and we look forward to supporting him through a victorious battle with his cancer. The video was a terrific honor for the Kruse family and all of Ben’s loved ones in attendance. It was sad, but uplifting at the same time and something Ben would have been overwhelmed with. Candy Coburn and her band rocked the house and have promised to do the same in ’06 (June 23-24). She is still working to make it big and no one will be surprised when that happens. She was nice enough to reunite with John Steward, Kip Musgrave, and Scott Kruse for renditions of some 80’s rock that the crowd seemed to enjoy. We don’t know if it was a comedic thing or a musical thing, or both, but it was a blast and Sittin’ Pretty have also been booked for ’06 and will be expanding their set list!
It was a pleasure getting to see so many faces and see so many groups reunite their friendships at such a special event. People came from Oregon, Massachusetts, Illinois, Kansas, and Indiana. Ben no doubt was there, listening in on all of the conversations and smiling his smile that we all miss so much. The Elk’s have asked us to come back and we are delighted to have scheduled our event at their facility, in fact we are honored to be there. Mark your calendars for June 23 rd and be looking and listening for tickets to go on sale in the spring. No guest speaker will be announced at this time, but we have some in the works that you would not want to miss.
