She never thought it would happen to her.

At the age of thirty-five, Becky Dennington was diagnosed with non-invasive and invasive ductal carcinoma.  Breast cancer.  In an instant, her life changed all because of a single word she couldn’t even bring herself to say out loud.  The ugly C word.

Share in the journey of one young woman’s fight against breast cancer, the sacrifices a family makes, the heartbreak cancer leaves in its path, and the joy found along the way.

2010 Golf Event Weekend
We are fired up to announce details about this year’s Ben Kruse 18 FORE Life Charity Golf Event!

We are celebrating 10 years of raising money for families battling cancer and are making this year’s event a fitting tribute to the success we have had. We could have never gotten here without each and every one of our volunteers, supporters and sponsors. Thank you! And let’s make this our biggest year ever!

Banquet Friday
On Friday, June 4th, former St. Louis Cardinal John Mabry is joining us as our guest speaker at our banquet. His story of over-hustle, hard work, and being a St. Louis Cardinal through some of the team’s greatest years will be fun and inspiring.

Kristi (Richards) Whitehead will also be giving her testimony of courage and positive attitude as our love offering recipient and cancer survivor.

Along with some surprises, we will once again give away a new golf cart (BUZZ VI!), have GREAT items in a LIVE! Auction (anyone willing to donate their heads for shaving step forward NOW), and hear from The BUZZ as the night winds down, or winds up depending on how you look at it.

Tickets for the banquet will go on sale May 1st!

Ten Pins For Ben St. Jude FUNdraiser at the Dexter Bowl is February 20th.

In our first 3 years, we have sent in over $20,000.00 to St. Jude.  This year we’ll add to that total and should be more fun than ever.

As with most diseases, early detection is key.  When breast cancer is diagnosed early, it is easier to treat and treatment is much more likely to be successful.  Research shows that survival rate is more than 95 percent if breast cancer is caught at an early stage.  The National Cancer Institute encourages women 40 and older to have a mammogram every 1-2 years.  And the American Cancer Society recommends women in their 20s and 30s get a clinical breast exam as part of their regular physical exam at least once every three years.

Below is a message from the Missouri Farm Bureau’s home office -

Many of you are familiar with The Ben Kruse 18 Fore Life Charity Golf Event held annually in Dexter to raise money for the V-Foundation for cancer research, as well as for families in Southeast Missouri whose lives are affected by cancer.  This year, our own CHAD GAYLORD in the Claims’ Department and his friend ANDY NEIDERT have pledged to ride their bicycles from Jefferson City to Dexter, both in memory of Ben as well as to provide recognition for the event held June 5th.

To show our support, you are invited to help send them off this Friday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m.  We will provide free Ice Cream Sundaes followed by a brief presentation about the event by Chad and Andy on the patio, weather permitting.  (Although the forecast looks promising, we will be in the Atrium in case of rain.)

Also, to help show our support, we will have a JEANS DAY for $2 on Friday, with the money going toward the charity event.  You may drop off your $$ in HR if you would like to participate.
